What? social housing for asylum seekers Where? in Finland When? in 2015

The topic of the contest was to design and provide social housing for asylum seekers based on modular construction as the key element of the housing.

The complex is for 200 asylum seekers and our intention is to create different typology of private and public: a big central piazza where community can stay together, talk, watch TV or play, so the most public space; a second type of ‘public’ is in between the apartments, with terraces, so each building has his space where families can eat together; a ‘semi-private’ space in front of the building, where people are near the house (so children can play with a parents’s supervision) but, at the same time, they are in a public space; and, finally, the flat: the essence of what private is.
